Q.What is a doula?
A.The word "Doula" comes from ancient Greek term meaning, "Woman who serves other women." Officially, doulas are professionals who provide emotional, physical and informational support and advocacy to women and families before, during and immediately after birth.
Q.What don't doulas provide?
A.No clinical tasks; no vaginal exams, no medical diagnosis or advice. No projection of own values onto client.
Q.Do you have qualified backup?
A. At the time of introduction and agreement I give you information for my back up doula. You may call her and set up a time of meeting. There is no extra charge for having a backup doula.
Q.What do you charge for labor doula care and what does that include?
A.I charge $900 for labor doula care. My birth package includes, introduction and consultation through out our contract, two prenatal meetings to discuss your needs and desires, more if needed, unlimited labor support through verbal prompts, relaxation techniques, position changes, companionship and medical interpretation. After your baby is in your arms, I help with initial breastfeeding prompts and prenatal and postpartum phone support as needed.
Q.I have a partner. Do I need a Doula?
A. A doula is present in addition to, not to replace the presence of your partner. A doula provides a comfort in her experience and knowledge of the phases of birth, both with the couple and with the medical care providers. Through her experience she helps to empower your partner by giving suggestions and showing the first step, allowing him/her to take the lead in positioning themselves as the loving support person they are.
